Elementary Badges and ELA/Reading Progress
Message Summary: Because reading skills build over time, many ELA/Reading badges are typically earned later in the school year.
Dear Eastern York Families,
We are excited about the start of our new reading program, Amplify CKLA! We are hearing students talk enthusiastically about what they are learning, from exploring the five senses, discovering Greek culture, or reading classic stories such as The Wind in the Willows. It has been wonderful to see students engaging with new topics while building their reading, writing, and language skills.
As we prepare to give parents access to our badging platform in the coming days and approach parent-teacher conferences, I want to share what you can expect to see when reviewing your child’s ELA/Reading badges.
Our new reading program builds skills and understanding over time, giving students multiple opportunities to learn, practice, and demonstrate what they know. Because the program is new and we are still early in the school year, teachers are continuing to gather evidence of student learning before awarding many of the ELA badges.
You will notice that some of your child's ELA badges have been started but not yet earned. This is expected at this point in the school year. In fact, many ELA/Reading badges are typically earned later in the school year, after teachers have gathered sufficient evidence that students have developed and demonstrated the necessary skills.
As you review your child's progress, we encourage you to pay particular attention to the comments provided by their teacher. These comments offer valuable insight into what your child is learning, the progress they are making, and the skills they are continuing to develop.
We look forward to sharing more about your child's growth during our upcoming parent-teacher conferences. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to support every student's success!
Thank you,
Doug Enders
Assistant Superintendent, Eastern York
